PORCELAIN CROWNS IN SMILES PLUS, CA

Smiles Plus Dental Care, we understand just how harmful broken, damaged and weakened teeth can be to your daily comfort and confidence. Porcelain crowns are a natural-looking option that can bring you relief from pain and improve the function of your teeth as well as your self-esteem.

WHAT ARE PORCELAIN CROWNS?

A dental crown is a “cap” that covers your entire visible tooth and practically speaking becomes the surface of your tooth. Smiles Plus Dental Care, we use porcelain to craft our crowns because it closely resembles your natural teeth both in appearance and functionality.

We’ll work with you to design a porcelain crown that fits your tooth perfectly to ensure your satisfaction.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF PORCELAIN CROWNS?

Porcelain crowns are a natural looking solution for many potential issues for damaged teeth.

HOW DO DENTAL CROWNS PROTECT YOUR TEETH?

Porcelain crowns safeguard your teeth from further damage and restore their strength, providing you with protection that can last a lifetime. There’s generally no need for further treatment other than your usual twice annual visits to our comfortable office.

HOW LONG DO PORCELAIN DENTAL CROWNS LAST?

Dental crowns provide a natural-looking and long-lasting solution for broken teeth and improve your smile’s overall appearance. They provide necessary stability to keep your damaged tooth and other teeth safe for up to 15 years.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN PORCELAIN AND OTHER DENTAL CROWNS?

Dental crowns have traditionally been made from a selection of different materials. Smiles Plus Dental Care we recommend porcelain crowns as we believe this is the material that is the perfect balance of function and appearance. Porcelain dental crowns are strong, comfortable, and if cared for properly, will not need to be replaced. They are matched to your natural teeth color and therefore blend in the best and usually go unnoticed.

WHAT ARE STAINLESS STEEL DENTAL CROWNS?

These are sometimes used as a temporary option until a permanent crown is created and customized to fit. These have been used primarily for children’s primary teeth. The metal crown protects the tooth until it is ready to fall out naturally and then the metal crown falls out with it. They have also been used in the past as a more affordable option, but because of the silver color, unlike porcelain crowns, they do not look like your natural teeth.

WHAT ARE GOLD AND PLATINUM DENTAL CROWNS?

The metal used in crowns is an alloy with a high content of gold and platinum which means these are a more expensive option, although the alloy can also be created with nickel, cobalt and chromium mixes.

Metal crowns rarely chip or break though some do not find them as appealing cosmetically since the metal or alloy retains its original color.

WHAT ARE PORCELAIN-FUSED-TO-METAL DENTAL CROWNS?

The color of porcelain-fused-to-metal crowns can be adapted to match your teeth. This is not the longest lasting option, however, as the materials aren’t as strong as other options. A tooth capped with this type of crown can also cause wearing to the adjacent teeth.

WHAT ARE RESIN DENTAL CROWNS?

These crowns are the least expensive option initially, however they do need to be replaced more often. They can be prone to fractures as well.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN PORCELAIN CROWNS VS. INLAYS AND ONLAYS?

Inlays and onlays are primarily used to treat cavities. Inlays are a great way to fill in a hole caused by decay, whereas we may suggest an onlay if one or more cusp needs to be covered.

When a tooth is too weak or too damaged for even an onlay, a crown is the next form of treatment that we turn to. Porcelain crowns cover the whole tooth rather than just a cavity. This means your whole tooth is protected and less likely to cause you problems in the future.

WHAT IS THE PROCESS OF PLACING PORCELAIN CROWNS?

There’s no need to continue suffering from weak and decayed teeth.

Initially, we invite you to visit our office for a dental crown consultation, examination, and x-rays. This helps us to develop a personalized dental crown treatment plan that suits your needs and preferences. Then, we will take impressions of your teeth to guarantee your crown fits naturally and comfortably. We will also get rid of any decay or infection that is present.

To protect your tooth, a temporary crown will be affixed while your permanent crown is being created. Temporary crowns are created here in our office and are made from either stainless steel or an acrylic-based material.

Within a few weeks, we’ll have you come back to our office, where Dr. Omid Barkhordar and his professional staff will use our specialized and durable cement to seal and bond your crown. Your new, confident, smile will be ready to reveal to the world!

HOW MUCH DO PORCELAIN DENTAL CROWNS COST?

A number of factors will affect the cost of your porcelain crown treatment. The position of the tooth, the material of the crown, and the size of the tooth all factor into the cost of your restoration.

If a crown is the right treatment for you, the team at See Me Smile Dental will gladly work with you to put together the right plan for you and go over your payment options.

HOW DO I CARE FOR MY DENTAL PORCELAIN CROWN?

Given the right care, your porcelain crowns can last a lifetime but on average, it usually takes between 5 to 15 years before a replacement is needed. The best thing you can do to keep your crown in excellent condition is continue with your usual dental hygiene routine.

WHAT SHOULD I AVOID EATING WITH A PORCELAIN CROWN?

We recommend that you avoid sticky or hard foods like candy or popcorn kernels that could crack or dislodge your crown. Two visits a year to our office will help us stay on top of any problems, preventing any future damage.
